Pirates of the Caribbean actor Keira Knightly recently stopped by the Chanel Connects podcast, and she shared her thoughts on films she enjoyed growing up, the luck she's had in her career, and, now, why sex scenes are an iffy thing for her, per the Guardian. First of all, the 35-year-old actor knows what types of intimate scenes she doesn't want to do: the "horrible" ones, "where you're all greased up and everybody's grunting." Second, even if such a scene is more tastefully and elegantly depicted, Knightly has limits on the person she wants behind the camera—meaning, she's done with directors who are dudes. "I feel very uncomfortable now trying to portray the male gaze," she says in her podcast conversation with Lulu Wang, who directed The Farewell, and writer-producer Diane Solway.

"I'm too vain and the body has had two children now and I'd just rather not stand in front of a group of men naked," she adds. The BBC notes that Knightley, who's had a no-nudity stipulation in her contract since she first gave birth in 2015—she now has two daughters, per HuffPost—applies her preference for female directors not just to overt sex scenes, but also to films with women-centered themes, such as becoming a mom. "If it was about motherhood ... about how extraordinary that body is, about how suddenly you're looking at this body ... [that's] changed in ways that are unfathomable to you before you become a mother, then yeah, I'd totally be up for kind of exploring that with a woman who would understand that," she says.
