CNN's John King, perhaps best known to viewers as the updater of voting maps during live election coverage, revealed Tuesday that he has multiple sclerosis. “I’m going to share a secret I have never spoken before," said the 58-year-old during an Inside Politics segment on the network. "I am immunocompromised. I have multiple sclerosis." As Deadline notes, his comments came during a discussion about COVID and the death of Colin Powell, who was vaccinated but also immunocompromised because of cancer. "I don’t like the government telling me what to do," said King, referring to vaccine mandates. "I don’t like my boss telling me what to do. In this case, it’s important."
King did not provide more specifics about his diagnosis. However, he said he's grateful that all those he works with at CNN are vaccinated. "I worry about bringing it home to my 10-year-old son who can’t get a vaccine," he added. Also in regard to Powell and the vulnerability of those who are immunocompromised: On Monday night, Tucker Carlson joined a chorus of vaccine skeptics by pointing to Powell's death and asserting that Americans have been "lied to" about the effectiveness of vaccines, per the Washington Post. However, later in the show, Carlson said he “left out that Powell was suffering from a number of different health problems," per Deadline. (More John King stories.)
