Adam Kinzinger isn't running for re-election to the House of Representatives next year, but the anti-Trump Republican may be running for governor of his state. "I think I’m the only candidate that could win, at least that’s out there now," against the current Illinois governor, Democrat JB Pritzker, Kinzinger said on Crain’s “A.D. Q&A” podcast, per the Hill. Kinzinger, one of 10 House Republicans who voted to impeach former President Trump, also said earlier this month he'd consider a campaign for a US Senate seat. A decision on his political future is expected by January.

Per Insider, he noted that Illinois is not a "far-right" state, and that focusing on issues like abortion is not the way to go. Rather, he said, Republicans need to win back the suburbs. However, given his unpopularity in much of the GOP due to his stance on Trump, "I do recognize the difficulty of a primary in this environment," he said on the podcast, "and I recognize that we’re in a moment where I think there are some people that would rather torch their chances at winning the Illinois governor’s race than dare vote for somebody that’s a conservative that doesn’t like Donald Trump."
