This story has been updated with the news of fatalities. Three students were killed and six other people were injured in a school shooting in Michigan Tuesday, authorities say. Police say the suspected shooter, a 15-year-old student, has been taken into custody and a handgun has been recovered, WXYZ reports. Oakland County Undersheriff Mike McCabe told reporters that no motive has been established. He said police responded to a flood of 911 calls from Oxford High School in Oxford Township just before 1pm. He said deputies apprehended the suspect within minutes of arriving at the school, which is around 30 miles north of Detroit.

“Deputies confronted him, he had the weapon on him, they took him into custody," McCabe said, per the AP. One of the six injured people is believed to be a teacher, CNN reports. The school was locked down during the incident, with students sheltering in classrooms. "Oakland County Sheriff’s Department has secured the scene. Oxford High School students and staff are systematically being evacuated to the Meijer Garden Center and may be picked up there," district officials said in a message to parents, per ClickOnDetroit. "Any students with their own transportation have been allowed to leave. All other district schools are in lockdown for safety purposes and are in no danger." (More school shooting stories.)
