Pelosi Attack Suspect's Blog Had Gory Images, Talk of Fairy

In blog posts by the man held in the assault on House Speaker Nancy Pelosi's husband shortly before the attack, David DePape shared gory images of headless bodies, rants about Jewish and Black people, and accounts of an invisible fairy that sometimes appeared to him. The posts included attacks on the media and Democrats but made no mention of Pelosi, the Washington Post reports. DePape faces attempted homicide charges in the attack on Paul Pelosi in the couple's San Francisco home on Thursday night. The speaker's office said Paul Pelosi has undergone surgery to repair a fracture in his skull, per Axios. Nancy Pelosi said Saturday that her husband's condition is improving.

The blogs were taken down Saturday, but not before the Post reviewed them. The blog was on a website registered in the suspect's name in early August; more than 100 posts went up this month alone. A post last week discussed a past struggle with suicidal thoughts. In addition to hateful memes echoing far-right commentators and conspiracy theories, he posted images of rotting flesh and blood, some targeting Bill Gates and Hillary Clinton. A drawing shows the devil asking a caricature of a Jewish person to teach him "lying, deception, cheating and incitement." He also wrote about his encounters with a fairy and his frustrating attempt to buy a fairy house online. The doors on one house were painted, he wrote, making it unusable. "They have lots of fairy houses but NONE of them are MADE for fairies," a post said.

Inti Gonzalez, who said DePape is her father, wrote on her website that she was shocked by the attack on Paul Pelosi. "I love my father," Gonzalez, 21, wrote. "He did genuinely try to be a good person but the monster in him was always too strong for him to be safe to be around." The statement later was taken down, and she declined to elaborate to the Post. The suspect's uncle told CNN he also was surprised by the allegations. "I really don’t know what to think," Mark DePape said. "Hopefully it's a scam." (More Paul Pelosi stories.)
