Donald Trump Jr, who describes himself as a "Meme War General" in his Twitter bio, appears to be very amused by the hammer attack on Paul Pelosi. Trump Jr. has shared memes making light of the attack on Twitter and Instagram, including one of a "Paul Pelosi" Halloween costume consisting of underwear and a hammer, People reports. "If you switch out the hammer for a red feather boa you could be Hunter Biden in an instant," Trump Jr. tweeted. The underwear was an apparent reference to a conspiracy theory shared by Elon Musk, who shared a story from a fringe website about the attack.

Police say Pelosi, 82, did not know the attacker, who broke into his home early Friday looking for House Speaker Nancy Pelosi. After days of silence on the incident, Donald Trump called it a "terrible thing" on Sunday, though the former president framed it in the context of violence in cities run by Democrats, the Hill reports. "With all of them it’s a terrible thing,” Trump told conservative outlet Americano Media. "Look at what’s happened to San Francisco generally. Look at what’s happening in Chicago. It was far worse than Afghanistan." "We have to give the police back their authority and their power and their respect," Trump said, claiming when an officer "says something that’s slightly out of line," it's "like the end of his life, the end of his pension, the end of his family."

Musk's post was later deleted. In a later tweet, the Twitter owned mocked the New York Times for reporting that he had shared a link from a site known to publish fake news. The New York Post reports that Jimmy Kimmel was among those who slammed Musk for spreading the discredited conspiracy theory. It "has been interesting, over the years, to watch you blossom from the electric car guy into a fully-formed piece of s---," Kimmel tweeted. (More Paul Pelosi stories.)
