Step Brothers Is Harmless Fun

But don't expect too much from the 'infantile' flick

Step Brothers is not exactly comedy gold, but it does have some redeeming moments, critics say. While the story of two man-boys forced to live together isn’t always amusing, there are some “funny-gut-busting” scenes spawned from “the comic chemistry of Will Ferrell and John C. Reilly,” writes Peter Travers in Rolling Stone. And while it’s “infantile,” “the movie is too good-natured to drown in raunch.”

On the other hand, writes Joe Neumaier in the New York Daily News, “watching people act like kids is annoying,” and the flick “tests our patience” far more than the usual Ferrell fare. But Reilly’s performance makes one “wish that he had gotten the chance to unleash his inner goofball sooner,” says Sam Adams in the Los Angeles Times. (More film stories.)
