A new John McCain ad goes on the offensive, attacking Barack Obama for canceling a meeting with wounded troops, Politico reports. The clip, which aired in Denver during Saturday Night Live last night, criticizes Obama over his track record with members of the military, sniping: “He made time to go to the gym, but canceled a visit with wounded troops. Seems the Pentagon wouldn't allow him to bring cameras.”

The ad notes that Obama “never held a Senate hearing on Afghanistan,” “hadn't been to Iraq in years,” and “voted against funding our troops.” The Obama camp reacted swiftly, calling McCain “an honorable man who is running an increasingly dishonorable campaign,” knowing “full well that Senator Obama strongly supports and honors our troops.” Obama said the troop visit was canceled over fears it might seem like a political stunt.
