The Maryland scientist linked to the deadly 2001 anthrax mailings who committed suicide last week had a “detailed homicidal plan” to kill his co-workers, his therapist testified. Bruce Ivins was diagnosed as a “sociopathic, homicidal killer” by several psychiatrists, she told a judge July 24, in seeking a protective order against him. Ivins obtained a gun and bullet-proof vest as soon as he learned of the pending charges against him, and planned to "go out in a blaze of glory,” she said.
Ivins was due in court last Thursday but killed himself two days earlier, the day his lawyers were set to discuss a plea agreement. Ivins’ lawyer told CNN he is sure his client was innocent, and blamed his death on the investigation. He said he was disappointed his client would "not have the opportunity to defend his good name.” (More Bruce Ivins stories.)
