Condoleezza Rice says Russia has “already paid a price” for its invasion of Georgia, because its “reputation as a potential partner in international institutions—diplomatic, political, security, economic—is frankly in tatters.” Returning from a trip to Georgia, Rice made a string of Sunday talk show appearances, skirting questions about whether the US had done enough to diffuse the situation earlier.

Rice also urged Dmitry Medvedev to honor his pledge to withdraw military forces, Politico reports. The Russian president announced today that the withdrawal will begin tomorrow. “People are going to begin to wonder if Russia can be trusted,” Rice said. “I think it’s really very much time for them to do what they said they were going to do.” (More Dmitry Medvedev stories.)
