Japan’s trade ministry says iPod nanos are to blame for three fires, Reuters reports. The Japanese government suspects defective battery cells could be the cause of the fires, which left individuals with minor burns. A product safety commission will investigate the incidents with Apple’s cooperation.

"We are not in the position to speculate on the outcome of the investigation. But after several incidents like these, it would be appropriate for Apple to take some measures to raise the public's awareness," a Japanese government official said. (More iPod Nano stories.)
