(Update: Donald Trump has selected Sen. JD Vance of Ohio.) Before the day is out, Donald Trump's name will be paired with another in headlines. The former president told Fox News' Bret Baier that he will announce his running mate on Monday. The AP reports that person is expected to appear at the Republican National Convention in Milwaukee later this afternoon as the vice president is formally nominated.

  • Ohio Sen. JD Vance, North Dakota Gov. Doug Burgum, and Florida Sen. Marco Rubio have most often been floated as frontrunners, but AP sources say Rubio and Burgum have been informed they were not picked. CNN's sources echo that.
  • The AP's take: "Vance is perhaps most ideologically aligned with the former president and would energize his base. At age 39, he would add a millennial contrast to the older men at the top of their parties' tickets. But he has served in the Senate for less than two years."
  • As for when the news will come, a source told CNN the nation will "see the pick for the first time at 4:37pm ET."
