Decorated general and former secretary of state Colin Powell might add another title to his resume, reports Politico, citing a McCain adviser who says his candidate's failure to rule out a running mate who supports abortion rights points to Powell as a possible pick. But Mitt Romney—whose father was a Michigan governor—is still a more likely choice if McCain decides a win in the state is crucial.

Meanwhile, Florida Gov. Charlie Crist, who was once considered a top McCain veep prospect, hasn't attracted much hype lately as he deals with Tropical Storm Fay damage. But CBS veteran Bob Schieffer has another McCain veep pick in mind: “I think if John McCain had his druthers—if he could do what he wanted to—he’d put Joe Lieberman on the ticket in a minute," he said.
