It's the nostalgia-driven collaboration we're not sure we needed but we're getting anyway. Sons of three of the Beatles—Sean Ono Lennon, 49, son of the late John Lennon; James McCartney, 47, son of Paul McCartney; and 59-year-old Zak Starkey, son of Ringo Starr (real name: Richard Starkey)—have teamed up to release a new single called "Rip Off," which Zak Starkey posted a clip of on Instagram over the weekend. People reports that it's the first time that three Beatles kids have come together to make music, although Sean and James had put out the tune "Primrose Hill" last year.
The Lennon and McCartney offspring joined Starkey's supergroup Mantra of the Cosmos—which includes Happy Mondays members Shaun Ryder and Mark Berry, as well as Oasis bassist Andy Bell—to come up with the song. Based on the sample that's out there via Starkey's social media, People calls the tune "a genre-bending rock song with elements reminiscent of the Fab Four's sound but very much their own group."
As for the missing progeny of late Beatle George Harrison, his musician son, 46-year-old Dhani Harrison, wasn't included. In an interview with the Telegraph last week, when interviewer James Hall mentioned to Zak Starkey that all he needed was Dhani to make the song complete, Starkey replied, "No, I don't. Why do I?" It's not yet clear when the full incarnation of "Rip Off" will be released. (More Beatles stories.)
