Subaru has snagged bragging rights from BMW in the annual ranking of car brands by Consumer Reports. The two companies switched the 1-2 positions from last year in the ranking, with overall scores based on road tests, reliability, owner satisfaction, and safety. The top 10 finishers of the 32 brands assessed, and other highlights:

  1. Subaru, 79
  2. BMW, 78
  3. Lexus, 77
  4. Porsche, 77
  5. Honda, 75
  6. Audi, 74
  7. Kia, 73
  8. Hyundai, 73
  9. Toyota, 73
  10. Infiniti and Mini each have 71

  • Worst performers: Jeep finished last with a score of 46, followed by Rivian (48), Land Rover (51), GMC (55), and Dodge (55).
  • Not great: Seven brands don't have a single model recommended—Lincoln, Alfa Romeo, Dodge, GMC, Land Rover, Rivian, and Jeep.
  • Tesla: It kept its ranking of No. 18 with a score of 65.
  • Not included: Brands need to have at least two current models to be included in the ranking, leaving out Fiat, Jaguar, Lucid, Maserati, Polestar, and Ram.
