In an issue of its comic book coming out July 5, Marvel Comics kills off superhero Captain America.  In "Fallen Son" Captain America is killed by an assassin on the steps of the federal courthouse in New York.  He was there after refusing to register his true identity (Steve Rogers for you non-fans) with the government.

Marvel writer Jeph Loeb says he was moved to create the story line by the Iraq war and the recent death of his 17-year-old son from cancer.  AP opines, "With the story line so relevant to present-day politics... it's hard not to think the whole thing is one big slam on the government."
