The Simpsons are making another run at the big screen—two decades after their last. Disney has set July 23, 2027, as the date when Homer, Marge, Bart, Lisa, Maggie, and the rest of Springfield will return to theaters for a still-untitled sequel to 2007's The Simpsons Movie. The reveal came with a tease from 20th Century Studios on Instagram: an image of Homer snatching a donut with sprinkles in the shape of the number 2, and a note that he's "coming back for seconds."

Plot details remain under wraps, but the release reshuffles Disney's movie calendar, bumping an unnamed Marvel title from the slot, per the Hollywood Reporter. The Simpsons will have competition in the form of Warner Bros.' animated musical Bad Fairies, which is also slated for that weekend. The core voice cast—Dan Castellaneta, Julie Kavner, Nancy Cartwright, and Yeardley Smith—remains intact, reprising their roles as TV's most enduring family. The Fox series, created by Matt Groening with James L. Brooks and Sam Simon, premiered in 1989 and recently kicked off its 37th season, making it the longest-running animated series and sitcom on TV, per Variety.

The first Simpsons movie, formed from a $75 million budget, scored $536 million worldwide. It found the family at odds with the Environmental Protection Agency after Homer polluted Springfield's water supply so badly that the town ended up under a giant dome. At the Hollywood Reporter, Kirk Honeycutt praised the film for capturing the biting, irreverent spirit of the show's heyday, though with a bit more restraint than other adult animated features. The film ended with Maggie saying "sequel?" after the credits rolled, the Guardian reports, noting she'll finally get her wish.
