Joe the Plumber remained a fixture of John McCain’s campaign today on the heels of his prominence in last night’s debate, the Chicago Tribune reports. “Joe's the man,” the Republican said at a rally. “He won and small businesses won across America. The American people are not going to let Sen. Obama raise their taxes in a tough economy.”
Joe (Wurzelbacher, of Holland, Ohio) came up in the debate because he had suggested to Barack Obama that the Democrat's tax plan would hurt his ability to become a small-business owner. "Joe the plumber said, ‘Look, I've been working all my life, I want to buy the business I'm in, but you’re going to raise my taxes,’” McCain told supporters. “You know what Sen. Obama said? He wants to spread the wealth around.”
