Barack Obama's intelligence, grasp of complex issues, and skill at consensus-building make him the right man to take on the huge challenges that await the next president, the Washington Post writes in a ringing endorsement. The choice was made easier by John McCain's "disappointing campaign"—especially his pick of a running mate unqualified to lead, according to the Post.

Obama's relative inexperience is a worry, the Post concedes, but his unflappable approach during the crisis of recent weeks is exactly what America should looks for in a leader during uncertain times. "Obama has the potential to become a great president," the Post concludes. "Given the enormous problems he would confront from his first day in office, and the damage wrought over the past eight years, we would settle for very good." (More Washington Post stories.)
