Ford and Edison Team Up on New Hybrids

Ford and Southern California Edison are joining currents to put some juice into the next generation of hybrid vehicles. The new cars will feature more powerful batteries, and will plug into a socket at night, storing energy and vastly increasing fuel economy. Edison is even looking into new tech that would allow the cars to transfer power back to the grid.

This partnership follows Google's announcement last month of a program to speed up the development of plug-in cars: The internet giant awarded over $1 million in grants to companies working on plug-in technology. Plug-in Toyota Priuses unveiled last month claim efficiency of up to 75 miles per gallon. (More hybrid car stories.)
