A British authority on wolves is taking his fiancée into the wild, and bringing cameras along, Newsweek reports. Shaun Ellis, who has spent years living with wolf packs, coaxed Helen Jeffs from her job as a schoolteacher to live on a wildlife refuge where they eat raw meat and cavort with their lupine brethren for the Animal Planet show Living With the Wolfman.

Some experts think the behavior too closely resembles that of Timothy Treadwell, killed and eaten by grizzlies in 2003. Both Ellis and Jeffs have received injuries from their wolves, though they say the violence is never intentional. Ellis sees his calling as advocacy, and the bumps and bruises are necessary: “If you want to speak for the creature, you have to live as one.” (More wolves stories.)
