“With 10 days to go before the election, it's getting pretty dark out there” for John McCain, William Kristol writes in the Weekly Standard. All the more reason for true conservatives to stand behind him "for the sake of the country," says Kristol, who's proud to stay off the "Obama juggernaut." He'd love to see an upset and revel in "the dejection of the mainstream media” and “the incredulity of the leftwing triumphalists.”

Obama is wrong for the country he has conned into believing in him. His “most impressive lifetime achievement has been the construction of an effective narrative about himself,” Kristol writes. He’s run an effective campaign, but so did Jimmy Carter and Bush 43. “Do the Obama acolytes want to hold up the Bush or Carter administrations as models for the proposition that a good campaign translates into a good presidency?” (More John McCain stories.)
