The husband of a jogger found dead in July has been charged with her murder, Raleigh's News & Observer reports. Police say parts of the testimony made by Brad Cooper during a custody hearing for the couple's two daughters earlier this month were inconsistent with what he had told investigators soon after his wife's strangled body was discovered.
In the months after the killing, Nancy Cooper's friends and family told police that she had been planning to divorce her abusive husband. "It had been a case of domestic violence of the very worst kind," a police chief said after Cooper's arrest. The couple's daughters, ages 4 and 2, now live with their mother's twin sister and her husband in Canada.
