Four men who planned to bomb London's transit system weeks after the deadly 7/7/05 bus and tube attacks were sentenced to life terms today in a British court. A jury failed to reach a decision on two other men charged as members of the conspiracy, which officials said might have killed thousands of London residents.

All six men were connected to a radical Islamic movement in Britain, and one had spent time in Pakistan concurrently with the 7/7 bombers. The judge said he had "no doubt" that both the successful and the failed attacks were "al-Qaida-inspired and controlled." Life in prison is the stiffest sentence available to British courts.
