VJ Day Nurse to Lead Parade
Alfred's Eisenstaedt's iconic photo taken at the end of World War II.

The woman who claims to be the lady in white in the iconic Life photograph of a sailor kissing a nurse in Times Square on V-J Day is being feted this week as grand marshall of tomorrow's Veterans Day Parade in Manhattan, AP reports.  Former nurse Edith Shain, now 90, donned a white uniform like the one she wore in 1945 and posed yesterday with cast members from South Pacific.

At least three vets claim to be the kissing sailor caught by Life photographer Alfred Eisenstaedt in a picture that captured the jubilation of war's end. "It says so many things—hope, love, peace and tomorrow," said Shain, who's one of two nurses who claim to be the woman in the shot. "The end of the war was a wonderful experience, and that photo represents all those feelings."
