With the league's lowest salary and a depleted front office, the Bobcats' Michael Jordan has made bold moves this summer, all part of an effort to revive an executive career marked by missteps and rivals' schadenfreude. Charlotte shook off its reputation for stocking up on young, low-earning players to take on a proven scorer and marquee player in Jason Richardson.

The Bobcats and their celebrity exec are also spending on extensions for budding star Gerald Wallace and defensive stalwart Emeka Okafor, gearing up to make a move in a weak Eastern Conference. Says a rival executive, "In 10 years, maybe that's the wrong move, but that's absolutely the right thing for Charlotte now." (More NBA stories.)
