Weis' Job on Line at Navy Tomorrow
"With more time than Willingham," his Notre Dame predecessor, Weis "has taken the Irish on a long and winding trip right back to where he found them," Kelly writes.   (AP Photo)

Facing the possibility of a two-game losing streak to Navy, unthinkable for at least a half-century at Notre Dame, coach Charlie Weis has to pull a rabbit out of the hat tomorrow if he’s going to save his job, Jason Kelly writes in the South Bend Tribune. “Who out there thought it would come to this for Weis?” he asks.

“Despite stocking the talent pool to a level at least as high as any of Notre Dame's opponents except one, he struggles to keep the team afloat,” Kelly writes of Weis, hired in 2004 to mammoth expectations. “Past the expiration date on the inexperience dodge, the performance of the young players now has to be viewed through the prism of development. Coaching.”
