Ted Kennedy returned to the US Senate today, having undergone 6 months of extensive treatment for a brain tumor, the Boston Globe reports. Accompanied by his wife, Vicki, and their dogs, Kennedy was greeted by applause from his family and staff in the Russell Caucus Room under a banner that read “Welcome Back, Senator.”

“It’s good to be back in the Senate,” said Kennedy, 76, who walked with the aid of a cane. He added that his spirits had been lifted in the hospital by Barack Obama’s election. Kennedy hopes to help pass a new economic stimulus package in the current special session. "He’s pumped and ready," said fellow Massachusetts Democrat John Kerry.
