Thirteen people died and at least 40 were wounded in an apparent suicide bombing today in Islamabad. The attack, which occurred just before Pakistan's suspended chief justice was scheduled to speak at an outdoor rally, was the latest incident in a wave of violence that has followed last week's military takeover of the Red Mosque compound, Reuters reports.

The bomber's target wasn't clear, but the opposition party of ex-PM Benazir Bhutto had set up a stall near the explosion site. Bhutto supported the storming of the mosque, in which scores of militants died. PM Pervez Musharraf suspended the chief justice in March, accusing him of impropriety, and lawyers demanding an independent judiciary have protested the move. (More suicide bombing stories.)
