The sounds of the Sixties were strummed out of the Laurel Canyon section of Los Angeles, but the neighborhood is now nurturing a similar movement in American music. Musicians are picking up the torch of Crosby, Stills, Nash, and Young, and the Doors, by creating new sounds in a "free-spirited, collaborative way," writes Jenny Eliscu in Rolling Stone.
With jam sessions at Jonathan Wilson's home as their epicenter, artists like Chris Robinson of the Black Crowes and Jenny Lewis of Rilo Kiley have revived a hippie spirit. Wilson has "tapped into some rare combination of mastery and open-mindedness" to help create a pioneering "Cali Rock," notes Eliscu. "First time I went to Wilson's house, I almost had a flashback," said musician Gary Goldberg. "I started crying because of how proud I was of these kids for carrying it on with reverence."
