Player Charges PGA Drug Use Gary Player says at least 10 golfers are using enhancers By Joseph Fasano Posted Jul 19, 2007 5:45 AM CDT Copied Gary Player, from South Africa, watches his putt on the second hole during the second round of the 2007 Masters golf tournament at the Augusta National Golf Club in Augusta, Ga., Friday, April 6, 2007. (AP Photo/Elise Amendola) (Associated Press) Former British Open champion Gary Player said yesterday he knows "for a fact" some players on the PGA Tour have used performance-enhancing drugs. "Whether it's HGH, whether it's creatine, or whether it's steroids," the 1968 Carnoustie winner lamented, "we're dreaming if we think it's not coming into golf." Random testing revealed no violations last year, however, and other pros have scoffed at Player's claims. Although he doubts the allegations, Tiger Woods says he's in favor of systematic screening, which LPGA officials are currently instituting. What's it likely to turn up? "Maybe being hung over a little bit," Woods jested. Read These Next A family hike took a tragic turn in Arkansas on Saturday. White House makes Hegseth put his polygraph away.
