Rather stay home than risk more bad weather today? Make a quick trip to the video store so you can hunker down with the New York Daily News' favorite Yule flicks:

  1. It's a Wonderful Life (1946): Didn't see that one coming, did you? Jimmy Stewart. 'Nuff said.
  2. A Christmas Story (1983): We double-dog-dare you to forget this tale of Ralphie.
  3. Home Alone (1990): Ahhhhhhhhhhh! Left behind when his family jets off to France, Macaulay Culkin defends his home turf from would-be burglars.
  4. Meet Me in St Louis (1944): Judy Garland introduced the classic "Have Yourself a Merry Little Christmas" at the end.

  1. Joyeux Noel (2005): German, French, and Scottish soldiers declare truce on Christmas Eve during World War I. True story that earned an Oscar nom.
  2. Holiday Inn (1942): Bing Crosby and Marjorie Reynolds save a Vermont supper club, give the world the song "White Christmas."
  3. White Christmas (1954): The song did so well it inspired a movie of the same name, also starring Crosby.
  4. The Santa Clause (1994): Tim Allen accidentally bumps Santa off, must fill Santa's shoes. Hilarity, and sequels, ensue.
  5. Christmas With the Kranks (2004): Allen again. Dad decides to skip Christmas til daughter comes home. No sequels ensue. Yet.
  6. A Christmas Carol (1951): Of the various versions, many critics prefer this one starring Alistair Sim as Scrooge.
