The recording industry is bringing out the big guns in its battle to stop illegal music downloads, threatening to sue hundreds of college students each month if they don't stop swapping swiped tunes. The kids need to be taught some download etiquette, says RIAA President Cary Sherman. "Remember that the habits that they form in college will stay with them for a lifetime."

Universities will be asked to notify students who've been fingered using school networks to swap songs that they're about  to be sued for copyright infringement. Cases can be settled out of court if the culprits pay a fine and sign a statement promising to stop downloading illegally. (More education stories.)
