A guard stood watch over the most expensive pair of pants in the world at a fundraiser yesterday evening in Washington. Guests sipped cocktails, nibbled appetizers, and took photos with the notorious garment, which was so important to its original owner that he sued his dry cleaners for $54 million. He lost, but the cleaners still have legal bills.

Jin Nam Chung and Soo Chung owe their lawyers $100,000,the AP reports. Organizers used the event, which attracted guests from all over the country, to help chip away at the bill and raise awareness of tort reform. Donations hit $64,000, which will go to charity if the court requires the plaintiff to pay their tab, as the Chungs have requested. (More pants stories.)
