Caroline Kennedy has removed her name from contention to fill the Senate seat of Hillary Clinton, reports the New York Times. Kennedy called Gov. Paterson today to withdraw her name, citing concerns over the health of her uncle Ted, an anonymous insider told the Times. The New York Post also says she's out, though other media reports are less sure.

Neither Kennedy nor Paterson has commented publicly. The Post, also citing anonymous sources, says Kennedy withdrew when she learned that the governor was not going to pick her. The Daily News, meanwhile, notes that none of Kennedy's confidantes seemed to know of the development. Paterson has said he would name his choice by Saturday.
