A Chinese graduate student has been arrested in the fatal stabbing of a female student in a cafeteria of the Virginia Tech campus. The death was the first campus killing since a suicidal gunman shot dead 32 in 2007. A student alert system devised after that attack was launched when police were alerted to the stabbing last night, AP reports.

Students were warned via 40,000 emails and text messages to stay away from the area. Police have not yet revealed a motive for the attack against the woman, who was also an international student from Asia. Several witnesses saw the attack, and the alleged killer was still on the scene when police arrived.
