GOP Must Break Mold to Beat Hill

Hillary is such a surprise campaign juggernaut that her Republican rivals don't stand a chance, says New York Times’ resident conservative David Brooks, unless they muster weapons nobody's seen yet. The senator’s display of experience and confidence has been extraordinary, he writes, and her falling negatives bode well for converting undecideds.

So much for the theory that her candidacy could “save the G.O.P.” Managing to change her Iraq platform “without a ripple,” and bruising Barack Obama along the way, Clinton can now be outdone only by a candidate who “goes for broke.” But with the GOP trail resembling the Dole campaign, Brooks is skeptical that the Republicans can rearm in time.
