President Obama is headed to the Capitol today to chat up House Republicans on the stimulus bill, but they may be tough to sway: House Republican Leader John Boehner has told them to vote against Obama’s pet package tomorrow, Politico reports. Minority whip Eric Cantor seconded the motion in the morning meeting. Boehner did, however, salute Obama’s three meetings with Republicans—in contrast with Speaker Nancy Pelosi’s zero.

After listening to the views of GOP representatives, the president will meet with Republican senators, whose leader, Mitch McConnell, said today that Democrats are “drifting away” from the stimulus as Obama wants it, earmark-free and with 40% tax cuts. Later, Obama’s chief of staff will meet with Republicans; Joe Biden is visiting the Senate Dems’ lunch.
