Men Are the New Old Maids
"If I meet one more man who recites the Shakespeare sonnet: 'Love is not love which alters when it alteration finds,' I might just chop off their legs," Hoggard writes.   (Shutterstock)

Forget single women—men are the real hopeless romantics, writes Liz Hoggard in the UK's Evening Standard. "Trust me, men are the new spinsters," she says. "They dream of being married to The One," but that "one" must be a mother, a wife, and a handy helper. Single men of a certain age are so picky, they end up alone every night. And the notion that they have overcharged libidos? Please.

But men "want to be truly loved," one of Hoggard's male friends told her recently. They're turned off by the idea of casual sex. "Men want poetry and the meeting of true minds," Hoggard writes. And though her mom would be appalled, that has Hoggard and her girlfriends longing for the good old days when men "just wanted one thing." (More dating stories.)
