Feds Send $5M to Repair Bridge By Dustin Lushing Posted Aug 2, 2007 12:37 PM CDT Copied This is an aerial view of the Interstate 35W bridge over the Mississippi River seen Thursday, Aug. 2, 2007, in Minneapolis, after it collapsed during the evening rush hour Wednesday. (AP Photo/Morry Gash) (Associated Press) The federal government released $5M to Minneapolis today to help with cleanup and rebuilding after the I-35W bridge collapsed yesterday. Minnesota's senators say they'll need $100M and 2 years to repair the bridge fully. "We in the federal government must respond, and respond robustly," President Bush said. Recovery workers are facing dangerous river currents and the possibility of more debris falling from the 1,907-foot bridge as they search for missing victims, which officials say could take up to 3 days. The NTSB has assigned 19 investigators to determine the precise cause of the devastating cave-in, which killed 4, injured 79, and left 20 to 30 missing somewhere in the Mississippi River below.
