The Rocky Mountain News, the oldest paper in Colorado and perhaps the longest-running business in Denver, will print its last edition tomorrow, the Denver Post reports. The news comes after its owner spent months fruitlessly searching for a buyer. “The operating conditions have become increasingly difficult,” the CEO said, “leaving us with no choice but to seek an exit.”

“The Rocky is one of America's very best examples of what local news organizations need to be in the future,” he continued. “Unfortunately, the partnership’s business model is locked in the past.” The Rocky had forged a partnership with the Post in an effort to cut costs, and won concessions from union workers, but it wasn’t enough. A last-minute buyer was “unable to present a viable plan.” (More Rocky Mountain News stories.)
