Mac: I'm No Rush, but Can't Support Obama on Economy

Unlike a certain talk radio host, John McCain is rooting for Barack Obama—they just don’t agree on much. In an interview with Politico, McCain says he’s trying to work with Obama; in the past week he’s appeared with him at a press conference and consulted with Robert Gates and Joe Biden. “These are terrible, perilous times,” he said. “I don’t want him to fail.”

But McCain doesn’t actually agree with Obama’s economic policies. He campaigned against the stimulus, says Obama’s budget is “certainly not something I can support,” and voted against giving Obama the second half of the TARP funds. “Loyal opposition in my mind means loyal, but it also means opposition where you have fundamental philosophical disagreements,” he says. “I think we have been pursuing the wrong strategy.” (More John McCain stories.)
