As criticism of Treasury Secretary Timothy Geithner mounts, he is scheduled to take his place on the hot seat next week, the Wall Street Journal reports. Geithner will appear before Barney Frank's House panel—the same one grilling AIG chief Edward Lilly today—Tuesday and Thursday. Two Republican congressmen, Connie Mack and Darrell Issa, want Geithner to resign, calling the bonus scandal the last straw.

President Obama, however, is standing by his man. “Tim Geithner didn’t draft these contracts with AIG,” Obama said. “There has never been a secretary of the treasury except maybe Alexander Hamilton right after the revolutionary war who’s had to deal with the multiplicity of issues that Secretary Geithner is having to deal with all at the same time.” (More Timothy Geithner stories.)
