In just one day, Miss California became one of the most well-known opponents of gay marriage—but her sister is a gay rights activist, she revealed to Access Hollywood. “She has her own views,” said Carrie Prejean of her sister. “She debates with my dad all the time about it. That’s what’s so great about being an American—we’re able to have our own opinions.”

Regardless of the fallout from her answer to judge Perez Hilton’s question, Prejean is “honestly happy,” she told Fox News. She “dreaded” the gay marriage topic, but concluded, “This happened for a reason. By having to answer that question in front of a national audience, God was testing my character and faith.” She added, “I have no regrets about answering honestly.” (More Miss USA stories.)
