President Obama is going to need more than a “cash-cow carbon tax” to fund his goals of “nationalized health care” and “federalized education,” writes Charles Krauthammer of the Washington Post. Obama’s going to have to slash Social Security and Medicare. But his current health plan actually increases costs by $1 trillion. Obama’s spoken vaguely about “additional adjustments” coming, and Krauthammer knows what that means: rationing.
Why else would the stimulus include $1.1 billion for “comparative effectiveness research?” It’s so the government can fund the “best practices” for tests and operations, and deny the rest. You’ll have to wait for an MRI the way you’d now wait for a kidney. Obama’s trying to serve America the candy of universal healthcare first, “but there is no escaping rationing. In the end, the spinach must be served.” (More Charles Krauthammer stories.)
