The US is close to deciding whether to free an initial group of Guantanamo detainees, AP reports. Attorney General Eric Holder didn't specify how long it would be before Gitmo closes, but said he must first determine how many prisoners will be released or tried. "We're doing these all on a rolling basis," he said. "We're relatively close to making some calls."

The administration may release Uighurs—a persecuted Chinese Muslim community—to the US. As the attorney general meets European leaders this week, he must tackle the formidable task of building international consensus on where to send the remaining detainees. "Many are asking why America isn't taking care of its own business," said a German analyst. "If you started it, you ought to finish it."
