Peterson could have lost hundreds of thousands of dollars in the pair’s split—but Savio was found dead in a bathtub one month before the trial that would distribute the couples’ holdings, leaving nearly everything in Peterson’s hands, the Tribune notes. “I'm sure that's what Peterson feared—mostly that she was going to take everything from him,” said Savio’s sister. But Peterson’s lawyer says that’s “a weak motive” for murder because half of Americans get divorced, “so that means almost half the people in America have motive to commit murder.” Meanwhile, Peterson defended his breezy post-arrest demeanor, the AP reports. “There's no book written” on how he was supposed to behave, and he doesn't think it would be better if he had tears in his eyes, Peterson told Matt Lauer on Today.
