The New York Racing Association has a lot riding on the outcome of tomorrow’s Preakness, Bloomberg reports. If Kentucky Derby winner Mine That Bird prevails, the resulting Triple Crown shot at Belmont could bring the association, which operates New York's three thoroughbred tracks, an extra $3 million in ticket, betting, and concession revenue. “I’ll be at the Preakness and rooting for Mine That Bird,” NYRA’s CEO said.

Mine That Bird isn’t the favorite in the Preakness; in fact, he was made the co-third choice in the morning line. Jockey Calvin Borel, who rode the gelding to victory in Kentucky, will be atop favorite Rachel Alexandra. But “if he wins the Preakness the same way he won the Kentucky Derby, the doubters will be dispelled,” a Daily Racing Form writer said. “He’ll be the favorite in the Belmont, the fans will come out en masse to see a Triple Crown winner and the casual bettor will bet him heavily to win.” (More Kentucky Derby stories.)
