Swine Flu Suspected in Death of NYC Toddler

Swine flu may be responsible for the death of a 16-month-old boy from Queens, the New York Times reports. Jonathan Zamora Castillo died at 10:20 last night, just hours after being admitted with a high fever, Mayor Bloomberg said this morning. He also said that four cases have been confirmed at the Rikers Island jail complex, with another four probable.

Castillo’s 3-year-old brother was treated and released. Bloomberg offered his condolences and urged even uninsured residents and illegal immigrants to go to the hospital if they fear they have the flu. “We will not ask,” he said. “I don’t know and don’t care what the immigration status was of the children question.”
