Night at the Museum: Battle at the Smithsonian is a lively improvement on its predecessor, even if it suffers a bit from information overload, say critics.

  •  Betsey Sharkey, Los Angeles Times: With its legions of museum exhibit-come-to life characters, the sequel resembles "not so much a movie as a series of running antiquity gags."

  •  Stephanie Zacherek, Salon: "There's so much going on in Battle of the Smithsonian that the storyline becomes unmanageable and cluttered," but "it at least refuses to be a stiff, lifeless relic."
  •  Owen Glieberman, Entertainment Weekly: The movie works because Ben Stiller "is the perfect addled straight man for a hellzapoppin history show," and because a show-stealing Amy Adams as Amelia Earhart "gives it zing."
